Does your dog struggle to focus outside?

Your dog might listen beautifully at home, but the moment you step outside, everything changes.

They're distracted by every sound, smell, person, or dog.

You find yourself repeating their name, asking them to sit, or trying to get their attention with food.

And sometimes, your dog seems too worried about what's happening around them to pay attention at all.

Here's what most people don't realize:

Getting your dog to focus isn't just about teaching more commands.

It's about helping your dog become confident enough to think, make choices, and voluntarily engage with you.

And that's exactly what we're going to work on inside The Confident Canine.

Does this sound familiar?

    • Your dog pays attention at home but gets distracted outside.

    • You're constantly repeating your dog's name or asking for attention.

    • Your dog focuses on the food in your hand instead of learning what to do.

    • Your dog seems nervous, distracted, or overwhelmed in new environments.

If any of these sound familiar, you're in the right place.

Confidence comes from making choices.

Most people teach their dogs to wait for instructions.

Sit. Look at me. Pay attention.

But what happens when you stop giving commands?

Inside The Confident Canine, you'll teach your dog to offer behaviors voluntarily.

Instead of constantly telling your dog what to do, you'll create opportunities for them to think, make choices, and experience success.

The result? A dog who learns to engage with you because they've learned how — not because you're constantly asking.

See The Results For Yourself

 Meet Alegro.

At 18 months old, Alegro struggled to pay attention to his mom, pulled on walks, and rushed toward people.

Now, he's learning to check in with her voluntarily — without constantly being told what to do.

That's the power of building voluntary attention.

"Wow, what an amazing course. This is useful for beginners and more experienced. Sherry has been amazing and took the time to answer questions and give advice. We still have some work to do but I have two very focused dogs."

"Bowie is 5 months old. He is a work in progress but is doing well with each exercise. Today was his best walk ever. He gave me eye contact and responded to his name around the leaves and birds (he's easily distracted). I love the online program as I can do it when I have a few minutes. I have already recommended this program to my daughter who has Bowie's littermate."

"I've done a lot of training with my reactive mini dachshund over the past 8 months. In the beginning, we used the cicker a lot and saw great results. However, as time when on, the use drastically reduced. I thought it was just because he had songe into adolescence. It turns out that the clicker was a clear method of communication. I had been miscommunicating with my dog this whole time. Thanks to this course, I now have a dog that doesn't bolt out the door because he learned to auto-sit and the behaviors practiced in this course have helped us implove other areas of our training. Sherry explains things well and give you reasons why these methods work. She is very clear and easy to understand. I highly recommend this course as the foundational steps taught are key to succeeding in other areas of training.

Meet Your Trainer

Hi, I'm Sherry!

I'm a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), Karen Pryor Academy graduate, and I've spent more than 15 years helping dogs and their owners build better relationships through training.

One thing I've learned is that successful training starts with the foundations.

And sometimes, it's not about teaching your dog more commands. It's about teaching them how to think, make choices, and learn with confidence.

That's why I created The Confident Canine.

These are some of the same foundation exercises I teach inside my Barkaholics Rewire Method, where helping reactive dogs feel safe and confident is the first step.

Now you can start building those skills with your own dog, right at home.

STILL HERE?

A strong foundation makes everything else easier.

The Confident Canine teaches some of the same exercises I use in the Safety phase of my Barkaholics Rewire Method.

Why?

Because before we work on changing a reactive dog's emotional response to other dogs, we first need to help them develop the confidence and skills to participate in training.

These foundation exercises are valuable for puppies, nervous dogs, easily distracted dogs, and dogs that simply need a stronger training foundation.

And if your dog needs more help with barking and lunging, Barkaholics takes you through the complete Safety → Rewire → Freedom process.

The Confident Canine is your starting point, not a complete reactivity program.
